VERB + –ING (GERUNDS AND PARTICIPLES)
- The verb + –ing used as a Noun or Gerund
- The verb + –ing used as the Present Participle
- The verb + –ing used as an Adjective.
The –ing form is used in three ways:
a) The –ing form is used as a verb (present participle). EXAMPLE: Adam is jogging in the park. / Eve saw a pickpocket stealing a wallet.
b) The –ing form is used as a noun (gerund) EXAMPLE: Everyone in the family likes cooking.
c) The –ing form is used as an adjective. EXAMPLE: They managed to save the drowning child.
